Peter McDowell, Director of Development of American Friends of the Louvre, will lead an entertaining and educational discussion about the venerable Louvre Museum and about its American support group.

Truly a global museum, the Musée du Louvre experienced record-breaking attendance of 10.2 million visitors in 2018. In addition to loyal visitors from France, Americans comprised the largest foreign visitor group numbering 1.5 million annually. Looking ahead in 2019, the Louvre has much excitement in store. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Louvre’s Pyramid, the beloved “urban beacon” designed by I.M. Pei. Events celebrating this occasion are being organized throughout the year and several of the Pyramid’s main areas have been freshly renovated through the visionary programs of President-Director Jean-Luc Martinez. In October, the Louvre will launch Leonardo da Vinci, one of 2019’s most anticipated exhibitions.

Peter McDowell is a Los Angeles-based arts management expert with more than two decades of experience serving artists and organizations at the highest level. Peter has held leadership positions at Opera America, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, and most recently as managing director of the Grammy-winning ensemble Eighth Blackbird. His firm, Peter McDowell Arts Consulting, offers a wide range of strategic career services for performing artists.
